Harvey S. Hecht, M.D., F.A.C.C., Director of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute and Professor of Clinical Medicine, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY.

Dr. Hecht is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in cardiac imaging and preventive cardiology, and is the author of more than 100 publications in peer reviewed journals. He is recognized as an opinion leader in the field of health screening, has been quoted several times in the Wall Street Journal, and has made numerous appearances on TV and radio.

After achieving acclaim as a leader in the fields of nuclear cardiology and stress echocardiography, Dr. Hecht established and directed successful Electron Beam Tomography screening centers in Phoenix and New Jersey, emphasizing physician referrals, and patient interaction and education. He has pioneered the development of noninvasive tomographic coronary angiography.

His imaging experience is paralleled by recognition as an expert in the prevention of heart disease. Dr. Hecht has been credited with the creation of the new field of "interventional lipidology", integrating early detection by imaging with an aggressive approach to the drug treatment of cholesterol disorders. He was the first to demonstrate the poor relationship between risk factors and atherosclerosis, and is a driving force in changing the conventional approach to the prevention of heart disease.

Dr. Hecht's academic appointments have included Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Assistant Professor at UCLA, Associate Professor at the University of Southern California and University of California, San Francisco, and he is currently Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He served as Director of Cardiac Imaging at the San Francisco Heart Institute, followed by roles as Director of Electron Beam Tomography, Cardiac Imaging and Preventive Cardiology at the Arizona Heart Institute and Chairman, Department of Medicine at the Arizona Heart Hospital. He was Director of Electron Beam Tomography and Preventive Cardiology at the Heart & Vascular Institute in Morristown, NJ, the Princeton Longevity Center, and Beth Israel Medical Center, prior to his current position as Director of Cardiovascular CT at Lenox Hill.

A Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude graduate of Columbia College and graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Hecht completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Mount Sinai Hospital (NY) and a fellowship in Cardiology at Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA).

Dr. Hecht is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is a consultant to the editors of numerous cardiovascular publications, including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, American Journal of Cardiology, Circulation, American Heart Journal, Journal of Invasive Cardiology, and the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography. He is one of the founders of, and was the first President of the Society of Atherosclerosis Imaging, as well as one of the founders of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
