Topic: Diabesity and Subclinical Heart Failure - Mechanisms and potential strategies

Thomas H. Marwick, MBBS, PhD, FACC, FESC, FRCP, FRACP, is Section Head of Cardiovascular Imaging in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Melbourne, and trained in medicine and cardiology in Brisbane (Princess Alexandra Hospital) and Sydney (Royal Prince Alfred Hospital). He completed training in 1988, before undertaking an Imaging Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic and a PhD at the University of Louvain, Belgium. He has held staff positions at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, London (Senior lecturer, 1991-3), Cleveland Clinic (Clinical Director of Echocardiography, 1993-8) and Princess Alexandra Hospital/University of Queensland (Professor of Medicine, 1998-2009). He returned to supervise Cardiovascular Imaging at Cleveland Clinic in 2009.

Dr. Marwick's main research interests relate to myocardial imaging and cost-effective application of cardiac imaging techniques for treatment selection and monitoring. He has published about 500 papers, reviews, chapters and editorials, and is an Associate Editor at JACC-Cardiovascular Imaging. Over the course of his career, Dr. Marwick has been the recipient of more than four dozen significant research grants and several awards, including the Simon Dack Award from the American College of Cardiology.
